Ginger Rhodes '75
Reflects back on 35 years in the education field
“I’m Ginger Rhodes, here in Cincinnati, came up from poverty in S.C. and only had once chance to go to college, because of the scholarship Antioch granted to me.”
I spent 35 years as teacher, principal, elected school board member. Since 2008, I now serve as an expert witness in school & educated-related lawsuits. I worked on the South Carolina case in which a Black female high schooler was thrown to the floor in her classroom by an SRO, in full view of the the teacher and assistant principal who needlessly escalated the situation. This young woman never raised her voice, just asked if she could take her math test tomorrow instead of that day. The SRO’s brutal assault was authorized by the Principal himself. I was the expert with the professional background to explain to the judge and jury why all of this was a massive breach of “standard of care."
I love working for justice. And my Antioch experiences that introduced me to that concept. It’s been quite a ride, I do write a lot but have yet to complete my story….
