Tim Klass '71
Followup to Class Note in Summer 2025 Issue
In the summer Antiochian, we published a note:
On July 3, Tim Klass ‘71 reports that he was presented a “distinguished graduate” certificate from the proton treatment center of the University of Washington-Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle. Makes me the center’s 5,846th patient to complete proton treatment, in my case 15 sessions of lying on a cold gurney and getting zapped with positive beams of energy for about 20 minutes each. In six weeks I get an MRI to see if I still have any trace of cancer from a liver tumor. Before then, I eagerly anticipate the birth of a second grandchild. Life goes on.
We asked for an update …
All signs are positive following proton therapy for liver cancer. MRIs and CT scans show the tumor has shrunk with no sign of spread or new malignancy, and blood tests show the liver remains fully functional and healthy. Oncologist is satisfied, I'm satisfied. On the down side, in the next month or so I begin peritoneal dialysis at home for chronic kidney disease. Offsetting happiness beyond measure, Karen and I became second-time grandparents with the birth of Noa Trost Klass on July 25.
