The line-up features musical tradition-bearers as old as 92 and much younger artists who play respectfully with tradition, “interpret it, and challenge it,” says Foundry Theater Director Chris Westhoff, promising “a pretty great season.” American Bluegrass and folk are interspersed with performers from overseas, like Cape Verde artist Lucibella, who with her band will perform melancholy, poetic ballads (mornas), and more upbeat coladeiras; Puuluup, a folk duo from Estonia; and musical theater (Mad River Theater Works’ production of “We’re Gonna Die”).
Another tradition, the pairing of progressive politics and folk, returns to Yellow Springs September 25 with musician-activist Holly Near. Composer of "Singing for Our Lives," she is described in the Foundry’s program notes as “one of the most powerful, consistent, and outspoken singers of our time.”
Antioch alumni are encouraged to buy season tickets and offer the ones they can’t use to be distributed free to members of the community.
